Final Portfolio Assignments
You have already created three pages for your web site: (1) index.htm, which is your "home page;" (2) presentation.htm, which is a web-enabled Power Point presentation; and (3) retirement.htm, which is a web version of an Excel retirement calculator spreadsheet. You have also begun work on a fourth project - a web page for the Hickok Center.
For the remaining projects, you will assume the role of an administrator at a real or hypothetical public or nonprofit organization of your choice. You are in charge of organizing an annual event (e.g., a fund-raiser) for your organization, and to that end, you will use Microsoft Publisher to create the following projects: (1) a flyer advertising the event, (2) a three-fold brochure describing either the organization or the event, (3) a series of numbered tickets for the event, and (4) an on-line newsletter.
Event Flyer:
A one-page flyer to promote the event.
Numbered Tickets:
To be used as tickets for the event.
Brochure:
Create a three-fold brochure describing either your event or your organization in general.
On-line Newsletter:
Your goal is to create an online newsletter for the month of December for your organization.
This newletter should contain at a minimum the following pages:
- A Front Page
- One Story page (you can make up a story or take one from another source, such as CNN)
- A Calendar page
- An Event page (describing the fund-raising event)
- One Form (volunteer sign-up form, ticket order form, etc.) for the fund-raiser
- A Price List page or a Special Offer page
- A Links page
Your newsletter should also contain at least the following elements:
- An animated gif (picture) downloaded from the web
- Background music on one of the pages
- Word Art
- A Drawing
- A Logo of your own design
Web sites that include the more sophisticated elements of Publisher (e.g., smart objects from the Design Gallery, "hot spots," etc.) will receive the best grades. Ideally, all of your Publisher projects should have an integrated design.
The due date for the printed flyer, 3-fold brochure and numbered tickets is Wednesday, December 3rd. For the online newsletter and the other web page elements, the due date is December 5th. When you are finished developing your web site, simply e-mail me at (gsaxton@brockport.edu). I will then evaluate all of the required elements of your web site--the Home Page, the Retirement Calculator, the Power Point presentation, and the online Newsletter. You must e-mail me no later than Friday, December 5th at 8:30p.m.
Note that 60% of your course grade is based on your "portolio," which consists of the 4 original web projects plus these 4 Publisher projects. Keep in mind that you are also able to work on any of the three original components of your web site and re-submit them in order to improve your grade at any time up to the 5th of December.
