Foundation Simulation

A central element of the class learning experience is the Capstone Foundation simulation. To highlight its importance, your participation in the simulation activities is worth 30% of your final course grade. Elements of this grade include active participation in the simulation and completion of any homework assignments (15%), peer review of individual performance (5%), your team’s simulation performance (5%), and a final shareholders’ debriefing / group presentation on the 28th of November (5%).

Shareholders' Debriefing

As a reminder, Round #5 decisions are due November 14th, and final decisions (Round #6) are due at the beginning of our next class meeting on the 28th of November. At the November 28th meeting, each group will make an approximately 10-minute (max. 15 minutes) presentation at their annual shareholders' meeting (the rest of the class will serve as shareholders). As per the instructions delivered at our last class session, this presentation will address  four main points: 1) an assessment of your performance relative to your strategy and mission; 2) an analysis of your decision-making, including such things as a summary of your decision-making process, your learning from year to year, and/or the types of information that drove your decision-making; 3) a summary of what you would do if you were to have another four years in the simulation; and 4) a summary of "lessons learned," where you could discuss any issues, concepts, ideas, processes, etc., that you feel have contributed to your learning about strategic management.

Given that each group will have approached the simulation differently, I will give you a significant amount of freedom in how you approach these four points. To guide the process, however, I have included a worksheet and a PowerPoint presentation below that could provide a framework to get you started. The PowerPoint template is useful, but not particularly well formated. Please feel free to use as much or as little of it as you'd like:

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. And if you'd like to send me a draft before the 28th, I'd be happy to review it. I will be bringing some refreshments, but if any of you would like to as well, please feel free.

I am looking forward to seeing the presentations. See you all on the 28th; in the meantime, have a great Thanksgiving!
